Trade and Development-TD

This course introduces students to the history of trade and the impact it has had on current global trade practices. The beginning constructs of trade relations can be traced back several thousands of years to Mesopotamia and is indicative of the initial purpose of trade being to cover basic needs. As trade practices evolved, so did the inventions and technologies which allowed goods to be traded all over the world. This in turn led to the establishment of organizations, such as the current World Trade Organization (WTO), that ensures the stability of the global economy. Students will be able to critically reflect on the historical events and demonstrate how the practice and growth of world trade has shaped cultures and changed the course of history.
