What You’ll Learn

The Health Services Administration & Management (HSAM) Diploma is our most comprehensive healthcare administration program — designed for people who want to coordinate and manage the operations behind patient care in clinics, hospitals, long-term care, and community health settings across Ontario.

You’ll develop the full administrative skill set — electronic medical records (EMR), scheduling, medical billing and coding, transcription, and health information management — plus the areas that set administrators apart: professional healthcare communication and infection prevention and control.

Is This For You?

This program is designed for:

You want a healthcare administration credential that covers the whole operation, not just one desk
You’re a Hospital Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant graduate ready to step up
You’re organized, thorough, and comfortable being the person a clinical team relies on
You’re looking for a stable career in one of Canada’s fastest-growing sectors

No prior healthcare experience required. HSAM is designed both for newcomers to healthcare administration and for working administrators formalizing their skills. If you’re accurate, organized, and ready to keep a health service running, you’re ready.

Why This Program

Built for people ready to run the business side of healthcare.

Every clinic, hospital unit, and community health office depends on someone who understands the whole operation — records, billing, communication, safety, and the daily coordination of patient care. This diploma builds that person.

Manage health information end to end

Health records, privacy legislation (PHIPA), documentation standards, and information governance.

Master billing, coding, and transcription

OHIP billing, medical coding systems, claims processing, and accurate clinical documentation.

Communicate like a professional

Administrative communication for healthcare — correspondence, documentation, reception practice, and working with care teams.

Keep facilities safe

Infection prevention and control — routine practices, additional precautions, and the administrator’s role in a safe facility.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it actually cost out of pocket?

Our published tuition for this program is $7,495. To make education accessible to self-funded students — many of whom are newcomers and career changers — every self-funded student receives the York College Access Grant of $3,000, applied automatically at enrolment. That brings your tuition to $4,495, and you can start with a $495 deposit followed by 8 monthly instalments of $500. If you qualify for Better Jobs Ontario, Ontario Works, or another government funding program, your tuition may be fully covered — approval must be in place before you enrol.

How is HSAM different from the Medical Office Assistant Diploma?
HSAM includes everything in the MOA Diploma plus two additional courses — Administrative Communication Skills and Infection Control — for a broader administration and management credential. If you already hold the MOA Diploma, you can complete just those two courses for a $500 top-up.
Is this program recognized by employers in Ontario?
Yes. York College is registered under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. Our programs are recognized by employers across Ontario, and graduates work across healthcare administration and support settings.
Can I complete this while working full-time?
Study on your schedule. Your coursework is available on demand, 24/7 — no fixed class times, no commuting. Live instructor sessions run weekly, and you can book a one-on-one whenever you need it. Your program follows a guided timeline, and most students graduate in about 7 months. Start anytime. Funded through Better Jobs Ontario, WSIB, or another sponsor? Your start date comes from your acceptance letter.
Can I finish faster than 7 months?
The program follows a structured timeline with a new course opening at regular intervals, so there is a minimum duration. Most students complete in about 7 months. If your timing matters, contact admissions before enrolling and we’ll walk you through the schedule.
Do I need previous experience in healthcare administration?
No. HSAM is designed for both career changers with no prior experience and professionals in adjacent roles looking to formalize their skills. We teach fundamentals from the ground up.
Is financial aid or payment plans available?
Yes. We offer monthly payment plans, and eligible students can use Better Jobs Ontario, WSIB, ODSP, Ontario Works, Indigenous Education funding, private student loans, and RESP. Government funding requires approval before enrolment — contact our enrolment team and we’ll help you understand your options.

Can I get funding to cover the cost of this program?
Many students can. The most common option is Better Jobs Ontario, a provincial grant covering up to $28,000 for short-term training — eligibility depends on your employment situation and requires pre-approval before you enrol. Other options include the Canada Training Credit, employer sponsorship, and our flexible payment plans, which are available to everyone. Read our full guide to funding career training in Ontario →
What is Better Jobs Ontario and do I qualify?

What if I don’t qualify for government funding?

You still have options:

  • York College Access Grant — automatically reduces self-funded tuition by $3,000
  • Employer sponsorship — many employers cover tuition as professional development
  • Canada Training Credit — refundable federal tax credit for Canadians 26–65 with earned income (eligible for our short certificates and micro-credentials)
  • Tuition Tax Credit — claimable through T2202 for our vocational diploma programs
  • Flexible payment plans — start now with a small initial payment

Consult a tax advisor or visit canada.ca for guidance on tax credit eligibility.

Will I receive a T2202 tax form?

Yes — for our vocational diploma programs. You’ll receive your T2202 by the end of February following the tax year, which can be used to claim the federal Tuition Tax Credit.

For our short certificate courses and micro-credentials, T2202 forms are not issued due to our on-demand format, but tuition may still qualify for the Canada Training Credit. Please consult a tax advisor or visit canada.ca for guidance.

How do I find out which funding options are available to me?
Email our advisory team at admissions@yorkc.ca and we’ll help identify every option that fits your situation. For Better Jobs Ontario specifically, contact your local Employment Ontario service provider before enrolling — funding requires pre-approval.
